#4 Margaret Fogarty's Walk-Off Hit Gives UMF a Sweep Over UMPI

University of Maine at Farmington sophomore Margaret Fogarty (Auburn, Maine/St. Johnsbury Academy) hit a walk-off single on April 17, 2016 to give the Beavers a 2-1 non-conference win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in the second game of a doubleheader.

Fogarty's dramatic hit was set up with a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh. With one out in the inning, Meryl Bond (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) reached on an UMPI error and then moved up to second after Kylie Cunningham (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) followed with a single to left field.

With two outs in the inning and facing a full count, Fogarty slapped a single in between the second baseman and right fielder as Bond came home to score the winning run.

The Beavers grabbed the first game of the afternoon with a, 2-0, shutout win. The scoreboard read all zeros before Cunningham singled home a run in the bottom of the third inning.

The score stood until the Beavers added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine/Mt. Blue) lined an RBI single to right field.
